A Comparison
LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) and HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) are both powerful analytical techniques used to separate and analyze chemical compounds. While they share similarities, they have distinct characteristics and applications.
LCMS and HPLC both works on seperation principle
They both are liquid chromatography techniques although uses for seperation of compounds by using their detectors.
In HPLC, we use mostly UV,RI,ELSD as detectors where the components are seperated by pi- bond detection in UV and PDA, laser diffraction in ELSD, movement of components in media differences in RI
Where as in LCMS, we measure molecular mass of components
Both HPLC and LCMS, has stationary phase where the components will be seperated
Then the seperated components will be detected based on kind of detector we use
We use, mass spectrometer to detect masses of components of the given compound
