Branded Medicine: Has a unique, trademarked name given by the pharmaceutical company that developed it. Examples include Advil (ibuprofen), Tylenol (acetaminophen), and Lipitor (atorvastatin).
Generic Medicine: Uses the official, non-proprietary name of the active ingredient. Examples include ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and atorvastatin
Generic medicine has its Active Pharma Ingredient as its Market name where as Brand name is given or represents the Manufacturers name for its Market name.
For example, Paracetamol is the Generic name of the drug paracetamol itselves.
If the same Paracetamol is manufactured by two or more companies, then they give thier product with their unique names.
Although the drug is same paracetamol, it has different names for different companies to avoid mixup and represent their name in the Market.
